USM Centennial
The USM Centennial Exhibit is a very educational exhibit. The exhibit is located in Cook library. There are so many great things to learn about the University of Southern Miss. The first disply that I noticed was the Mississippi Marching Band Red Coat. The red coat was worn by the marching band during the 60's and 70's. The coat was a tribute to the Scottish heritage of the former president, William D. McCain. I browsed many of the items on display such as the 1st semester of registration cards from the students throughout the state of Mississippi.
The Centennial Exhibit is set up very neatly and organized. It displayed some older yearbooks from previous years at the college. Also, on display was one of the first outfits worn by the Dixie Darlings. Tulane College was one of Southern Miss rivals from back in previous years. The heated football games became known as the "Battle of the Bell". The team that won the game got to keep the bell for a year. The bell that is on display is black and gold. During the early years of Southern Miss seemed to be the great days. I had not realized that there was so many historical things from the 1900's that would be antiques today. I really enjoyed touring the exhibit and I am very proud of our college.
About the President
Dr. Martha Saunders is the President of The University of Southern Miss. She was appointed President by the Board of Trustees of the Institutions of Higher Learning also known as (IHL). The President of The University of Southern Miss holds alot of responisibilities as well as any university. Therefore, the President is responsible to report to the Board of Trustees for every facet of the Universities operations. Dr. Saunders is also responsible for making sure the academic standards are being met by the students and educational policies. Dr. Saunders is a great person and welcomes anyone who needs her help. The Payne Center
The Payne Center is one of my favorite places to go on campus. It is a very relaxing center to come to after a long day in class. The Payne Center has so many varieties of workout regiments. The greatest thing about the Payne Center is that it is also setup for people with disabilities. This is awesome because they get to come and workout and not have to be treated any different than people without disabilities. I love that students get to workout for free. Oprah Winfrey is one of the most powerful African American women of our time. She is from a small town called Kosciusko, Ms. However, her life wasn't always great. Oprah was raised by a single teenaged mother. They eventally moved to Milwaukee and there she went to school and studied radio. Later, she landed a job co-anchoring at a local news station. Oprah's many triumphs made her the person she is today. Oprah made a name for herself when she became the first Black woman to own her talk show. She is the top talk show host on daytime tv. Oprah has also been ranked one the the wealthiest African American women of the 20 century. She plans on retiring from being a talk show host in 2011. Oprah Winfrey is a very dedicated and virtuous woman who cares alot about the needs of people. She inspires women all over the world to go after what you believe in. Lving On A Budget A budget is a great way to live your life. Living on a budget can be very difficult for most people. Some people are not used to their money being limited due to hardship. When a person live on a budget they cut back on the certains things. They start only spending money on necessary items instead of materialistic items. The material items may include clothes, jewlery, and shoes. Living on a budget is a great way to save for the future. Many people only live for the moment and think that money troubles can't occure. Facebook is the new networking communication website. Facebook was originally for students who were in college. Facebook is now used by people all over the world.
